Borody
2004 Review
Borody TJ, Warren EF, Leis SM, Surace R, Ashman O, Siarakas S:
Bacteriotherapy using fecal flora: toying with human motions. J Clin Gastroenterol. 2004 Jul;38(6):475-83.
The above paper is a review of fecal transfusion up to 2004. Many
probiotic pills are on the over-the-counter market; however, the
best probiotic as the study mentions is the entire fecal flora.
The fecal flora contains Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium
bifidus, and hundreds to thousands of other types of bacteria.
Fecal transfusion therapy uses the complete human bowel flora from
a healthy donor to treat patients.
Fecal transfusion has been used for Clostridium difficile,
and it’s syndromes of chronic diarrhea, colitis, and pseudomembranous
colitis.
Fecal transfusion has also been used for inflammatory bowel disease,
irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic constipation.
